MINUTES SA-IDA MEETING - MARCH 13, 2002 March's meeting was a tribute to Ed Vega founder of SA-IDA and was held in the Sky Room of the China Rose restaurant. The meeting began at 6:00 pm with each person, Ed being the first to do so, introducing him or herself. Dinner, expertly prepared by Carol Hunter, was then served. After dinner Dave Levy spoke of his friendship with Ed, the friends they shared many of whom where in attendance, Ed's accomplishments, and read a passage on the adverse effects of light pollution from Leslie Peltier's book Starlit Nights. Tim Hunter's talk centered on Ed's scientific reputation as a research physician. He also pointed out that it was Ed's idea to take the proper approach to controlling light pollution by involving those individuals who control the codes. Ingrid Saber recited a poem she had written. John Polacheck next spoke of had Ed how convinced him to become active in SA-IDA. Dave Crawford updated the audience on IDA's 14th annual meeting in March, and the creation of the Bob Goff fund. This fund will buy and donate high quality light fixtures to private homes and small business firms. He also presented Ed with an award from IDA for his work in controlling light pollution. Liz Alverez gave Ed a copy of Art Ludgren's most recent book as well. Old business: Avery Davis discussed construction and use of his light pollution meter. Ed Vega asked those in attendance who are not members of IDA of SA-IDA to join. Ed commented he did not understand why this was being done for him since he was "not special." His daughter Maria's response was that all this was being done because "you are special." Meeting adjourned at 8:37 pm. Respectfully submitted, Dick West
